The painting "Tsarevna-Nesmeyana" was painted based on the eponymous Russian fairy tale. It says that the king had a daughter that no one could cheer - she was always sad. He could not look at her, as her parental heart ached from the fact that the girl was stuck in her eyes. So he convened the whole kingdom, reporting that the one who can cheer up the princess will receive her hand and half the kingdom in addition.

In the very center of the picture you can see the princess who is sad, despite the fact that everyone around her is having fun. It is located on a high throne. At the same time, her whole face, pose and camp express inner sadness. Her eyes drooped, and her gaze was fixed on the distance. The position of the body and arms suggests that she is bored that she is tired of all these people.

Around her, not only the subjects of his father, but also the suitors who came from afar. However, none of them can amuse the sad princess. She supposedly does not care about all these people.

The gap between the main character and all the other characters of the picture is transmitted through the artistic techniques that Vasnetsov used.

First of all, it is striking that the princess is located on a high throne. This already indicates that the author exalted it over the rest of the mass. Her posture is very stately, which indicates her high status. This cannot be said about the crowd of people that surrounds it. The girl is dressed not like everyone else: her white outfit stands out against the dark green-red clothes of everyone else. The throne on which the princess is located is made of ivory. The people believed that it symbolizes the center of the world.

The painting was painted by the artist from 1914 to 1924. Many critics argue that with this work the author wanted to notice the position of Russia in those days.
