Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin was very fond of portraying forests and rivers. So in this picture, painted by the artist in 1894, the viewer is presented to plunge into the natural world with a light gamut of tones. The whole picture is permeated with air and color.

Here you can feel the joy of being, a soft, sincere lyrical principle. The girl laid the book aside and is fascinated by the birdsong. It is evident that she is in no hurry. I just went into the garden to read another novel. Throughout the picture there is a penetration of soft sunlight and calm.

The master deliberately did not leave a single dark spot in order for the viewer to feel the coolness of the foliage on this summer hot afternoon. The painting of the landscape was conceived by the artist in light colors, so that the viewer, as he himself perceived nature, as something magical and subtle.

The image of a girl with a colored umbrella in her hands, which she hides from the sun's rays, her snow-white blouse, her relaxed pose indicate that nothing can interfere with her unity with nature.

The artist specially depicted a mixed forest, because in the background you can see the expanse of a calm river, from which you feel cool due to the light blow of the breeze. The master in the picture displayed mighty trees to match himself. Their crowns seem to protect the girl from the scorching sun, although the rays of the sun try to break through the dense foliage.

The year 1895 for Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin was marked by the release of his fourth album, in which 60 sheets of his best works were collected.

This picture is so bright that the Kazan audience, when Shishkin in 1898 presented this picture to the residents of Kazan, asked the master to leave this picture to the city. The artist was very fond of his native Kazan land and did everything possible for it. Many drawings, albums with his works, paintings were transferred to them by the art school. During the war, they were preserved in the local Kazan Museum.
