The painting "The Invisible Man" or "Invisible" is considered difficult even for Dali. Some critics are inclined to evaluate this picture as a sign of schizophrenia of the author, others see an experiment incomprehensible to them, and others, based on the philosophy of modernity, believe that their work pushes them to think about their own being.
In principle, the artistic technique of showing metamorphosis used in the picture is often used by the author. Here, along with meaning, the contours of objects and figures are also hidden.
The construction of this work by Dali is based on the “three pillars”: the active influence of light; the complexity and density of all plans; the interaction of the plans of the picture, its episodes, figures and images. Moreover, the specified interaction is whimsical in nature. Thanks to the successful interaction of the plans of the picture, the boundless depth of space is immediately felt.
In the picture, long shadows attract attention, the use of which was perceived as a new idea by Dali.
What are the metamorphoses of the work?
You can see the face of a person, which of course is not simple. On it are symbols of a strong human mind from distant civilizations. But along with the person’s face, his fantasies also open up for us, which are as if in free flight.
The remaining figures of the painting “The Invisible Man”, in principle, are not subject to unambiguous interpretation. Most likely, they are a fantasy on the personal life of the artist. In the foreground (in the lower left corner), Dali depicted a monster who, while not being the main figure, at the same time exists everywhere to a certain extent.
Nevertheless, no matter how original decisions this picture differs, it is still a work of Dali, and as always, bizarre and capricious forms and elements complement and highlight the main image. For our case, this is the image of the "Invisible Man."
