Konstantin Egorovich Makovsky is a rather diverse artist who has his own unique style, recognized by experts and admirers of his work. As for this picture, under the name "Still Life", the master is inclined to use a genre uncharacteristic for himself, the so-called "pure".

It is worth noting that the image of bright and light colors, directly on a dark background, was often performed by Dutch artists of the 17th century. Thus, for a long time, such paintings were the standard and role model for the correct construction of the plot and layout of colors. The canvas leaves a vivid impression. A riot of colors and an abundance of flowers, which overflowing a vase, fall down on the table, can represent wealth.

In general, the still life looks completed and pretty high quality. You can notice the tiniest glare that shimmers on the vase, a very contrasting play of light and shadow. What is especially interesting is how the master was able to accurately and realistically transmit the refraction of light and distortion of the image, looking through the glass of the vase.

Meanwhile, it is noticeable that, as in any other still life, the bias was nevertheless placed on naturalness, despite a certain academic nature and correct painting. It does not seem pretentious, and on the contrary, too natural a moment at which the artist managed to capture the flowers, allow them to freeze for a long time near the picture, fearing that from his breath, a sheet of fern or a petal from a flower is about to flutter.

The table is covered with a brown tablecloth, and this color, apparently, was not chosen by the artist by chance, it perfectly complements the contrast and perfectly marks the so-called horizon line, even in places where it is necessary to use rather dark tones due to the weakness of lighting.
